A 29-year-old motorist from Audenshaw has pleaded guilty to drug driving, speeding and using a vehicle without insurance.
Daniel Callaghan, of Maytree Crescent, admitted the offences which occurred on Stamford Road in the town on 3 August last year.
He appeared at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court, where he received a three-year ban from driving, fines and costs totalling £400, a community order for 12 months, and an overnight curfew for 12 weeks.
Callaghan was initially stopped for speeding, as he was driving at 38 miles per hour in a 30mph zone, whilst officers from the Tameside West Neighbourhood Team were carrying out a speed enforcement operation.
Community concerns about speeding during the coronavirus lockdowns led to officers from the various Neighbourhood Teams in Tameside being trained to use speed detection equipment.
PC Cookson, from the Tameside West Neighbourhood Team, said: "Speeding is not just illegal, it endangers lives. If a pedestrian is hit by a vehicle driving at 20 miles per hour, there is only a five per cent chance of the pedestrian dying, however, if the vehicle is travelling at 40 miles per hour, the chance of the pedestrian dying is 85 per cent.
"Offenders who speed are also more likely to commit other road traffic offences. We will target these irresponsible and anti-social drivers, using a variety of options to reduce such dangerous behaviour and make the roads of Tameside safer for our communities."
