A Denton resident who went above and beyond for his neighbours during the pandemic has received recognition from his MP.
Clement White, 68, was presented with a citizen’s award by Denton MP Andrew Gwynne, who has received numerous letters and testimonies from Clem’s neighbours and friends.
Clem has gone above and beyond for his community, clearing drains, fixing cars and picking up shopping for those who needed help.
Clem said: “I help out wherever I can in the community.
“I’ve always been able to help and if I can I’ll do it.
“I’ve lived here 36 years in this street and its a welcoming street. We all get along.”
Mr Gwynne said: “What it showed to me was that the work that Clem had done over lockdown, and is continuing to do, has really struck a chord with the local community and his friends. The people have really appreciated the help that he’d given them.
“We get lots of nominations for these citizens awards, but rarely do you get one that is backed up with so much evidence and so many lovely letters supporting the person that has been nominated. It is my pleasure to give the award to Clem surrounded by all the people that wrote about him.
“What a beautiful thing for Clem, because it’s not just the certificate, all these friends that he’s helped are here to celebrate as well.
“I think this is probably one of the best ones that we’ve done because it’s not just me saying thank you to Clem on behalf of the community, the community were here to say it themselves.”
