Police are investigating after a 'badger baiting' site was uncovered in a wooded area in Hyde.
The discovery was made by the South Manchester Badger Group near to Armitage Close and reported to Greater Manchester Police.
It's a criminal offence to take, injure or kill a badger, or to interfere with a badger sett, under the Protection of Badgers Act 1992.
No arrests have yet been made but enquiries are ongoing.
GMP's Tameside South and West team says anyone with information or who has seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area should get in touch by calling 101 or reporting it online at https://www.gmp.police.uk/ quoting incident number 001295-30062022.
The South Manchester Badger Group has thanked police and said that badger baiting and other wildlife crime is 'sadly increasing'.
They said in a statement: "We'd like to thank GMP Tameside South and West for being so proactive when we reported this and for sending an officer out. Badger Baiting and other wildlife crime happens a lot in Greater Manchester and sadly it is increasing."
