Greater Manchester Police have said a Toyota Rav4 had been travelling in an easterly direction along the road, towards the junction of Acresfield Road.

At the same time, a 12-year-old boy was riding a scooter in the opposite direction when both he and the Toyota crashed into each other.

The boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries to his head and chest. He remains there in a life threatening condition.
