Stalybridge MP Jonathan Reynolds has written to the town's Tesco store to see if a lasting memorial might be placed in memory of Max - the Tesco cat.
Tributes, cards and flowers have been placed at the store’s entrance in tribute to the black and white feline who was a permanent fixture at the store and who welcomed shoppers.
He would also be found in the entrance among various items for sale, lapping up attention from visitors.
The MP stated: “I’ve written to Stalybridge Tesco to see if a permanent tribute to Max the cat might be possible. He was a lovely mascot for our town and will be much missed, by not just his family but the whole community.”
Numerous sympathy cards, flowers, children’s artworks, pet toys and even a poem have been placed alongside a framed picture of Max in the store entrance, as shoppers of all ages expressed their sadness at Max’s passing.
The items remain on display in the shops foyer.
A poem - ‘Max My Little Fur Buddy’ penned by a Tesco employee reveals how big a part of everyone’s life at the store Max had become as the Tesco cat, greeting workers as they arrived at work and also appearing when they left for home late at night, stating: “Time to open the garage as I walk back you trot alongside me and then run to the doors, you run in and onto the charcoal for our morning strokes...”
A spokesperson for Tesco said they would be considering the MP’s request.
