Appeal for witnesses after armed raid in Gee Cross

Police are appealing for information following an armed robbery at the Tesco store in Gee Cross last week.

Two men armed with hammers threatened three members of staff and demanded money from the safe and tills during the raid at the Stockport Road store, which happened at 9.45pm last Monday, November 2.

A bag containing personal items and keys to a white Mini parked outside the store were also stolen, the offenders making off in the car with cash, cigarettes and alcohol.

Although no one was hurt, the store staff were left badly shaken.

The offenders are described as two white men with Manchester accents who were wearing khaki green North Face jackets, dark jogging bottoms and trainers.

One wore a black balaclava and the other was wearing a black scarf covering his face.

Police have released CCTV of three people who may have witnessed events around the robbery.

Detective Constable Susannah Holt, of GMP’s Tameside CID, said: “We’re appealing to members of the public to come forward if they recognise the men in the CCTV images.

“At this stage, we believe these men were witnesses because they entered the store around the time of the robbery.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 9262 quoting crime reference number GG/0020135/20. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
