There have been changes to how residents can use libraries across Tameside, in light of Tier 4 coronavirus restrictions being introduced.
From Monday 4 January, library buildings are no longer open for general use and browsing - but people can return items and pick up pre-ordered books at the library entrance.
All online services and the Home Library Service will continue as normal.
Tameside Council also say that access to public PCs in library buildings will be strictly managed to assist with essential activity, such as job applications, benefit claims and digital access to other public services.
The following services are currently available:
- Pre-order and collect books from libraries.
- Return of loans.
- PC bookings - it is advisable to book in advance as there are fewer PCs available due to social distancing guidelines.
- Home Library Service for people who have difficulty leaving their homes.
- Digital services including e-books, magazines and newspapers.
- Online events and activities – see the Libraries Homepage for forthcoming events or book via Eventbrite.
- Tameside Libraries Information Service and Virtual Reference Library.
There are libraries in Ashton, Hattersley, Hyde, Dukinfield, Stalybridge, Denton, Droylsden and Mossley.

Tameside, as part of Greater Manchester, has been under Tier 4 - the toughest current level of coronavirus restrictions since New Year's Eve (31 December 2020). It means people should only leave home for specific purposes, work from home if they can, should not travel unless necessary and should only meet with their household or one other person in a public outdoor place.
