Christmas lights switch-on in Mossley

The freezing weather couldn't keep the crowds away from Mossley last weekend.

They turned out in their hundreds to watch as the Christmas lights were turned on to add a touch of sparkle to the town.

Alongside the twinkling lights, families brought their homemade lanterns and entertainment was provided with brass band music, a choir, dancers and a fun fair on the market ground in top Mossley.

An array of colourful cartoon characters also added to the festive atmosphere as they mingled with the crowds.

The fun started at 4pm and went on for three hours, with the lights switched on at 5.30pm.

Father Christmas was also on hand and handed out gifts to the children.

Tameside Council thanked residents for joining in the fun and for the organisers for helping to stage the event.
