Community celebrations in Ashton for Eid

A special community fun day was held at Oxford Park Community Sports Centre in Ashton to mark Eid celebrations.

The event was organised by the Khush Amdid women’s charity, which has been planning, organising and hosting the Eid Chaand Raat celebrations for the last five years in various venues in Ashton.

At this year’s event, there were many stalls offering a whole range of things such as food, clothes, toys, henna designs, bouncy castle, jewellery accessories activities for children and much more.

The day was hugely successful and Khush Amdid would like to thank Active Tameside at Oxford Park who made the hall available and all the groups who had to cancel their session for the event to take place.

They would also like to thank Infinity Initiatives, Asda in Ashton, Morrisons in Dukinfield, and the Co-op in Dukinfield for providing items for the children’s Tombola.

The event was attended by the Civic Mayor of Tameside and local dignitaries.

There was great support for Eid Chaand Raat from diverse communities.

Trustee Aisha Naeem said there was a great family atmosphere and that it was a great way to see different communities enjoying the event, bringing communities together.

Khush Amdid has organised lots of activities to empower women and this year they have displayed a beautiful silk banner in Ashton library, which was produced by the service users before covid.

Trustee Nageena said Khush Amdid and all the volunteers had worked incredibly hard to make this a successful event without any funding, with the charity thanking everyone who attended.

They hope to organise similar multi-cultural events in the near future.

Chaand raat is the sighting of the new moon and the start of the Eid celebrations to mark the end of the Blessed month of Ramadan.

Chaand Raat is family-focussed and provides something for everyone in the whole community, providing an opportunity to meet family and friends and to prepare for Eid the next day.
