Copley Academy in Stalybridge has reported some 'outstanding achievements' by its students in their GCSEs and vocational qualifications.

This year, following the cancellation of exams, grades were awarded through a process of teacher assessed grades, against a national standard and approved and awarded by the exam boards.

The government has said it is not publishing performance data for any schools or colleges this year due to the varying impact of the pandemic.

Nationally, results have hit record highs again this year, with the proportion of pupils getting the top grades – that’s a seven or higher, equivalent to at least an A – increasing by 2.7 per cent on last year to 28.9 per cent.

Copley say many of its students have 'made excellent progress' despite the disruption caused over the last 16 months.

Four of the Huddersfield Road school's highest attainers - Achintya Patel, Jacob Dooley, Phoebe Deer and Jaiden Selby - have achieved 19 Grade 9s between them.

The school also said the following students have made 'outstanding progress' since starting at Copley Academy: Isobel Hudson, Liane Almeida, George Hassall, Kira Quinnell, Malaika Khan, Tilly Heeley, Jacob Lampard, Holly Huetson, Harris Fletcher and Chantelle Kilbride, Kristian Darby, Louis Morris, Leah Martin, Sareena El-Ammar, Chloe Boswell, Morgan Wagner, Georgia Kinsey, Anya Garbett, Connor McCloud, Ffion Hutton, Joshua Fraser, Dylan Mackay and Nikola Skibinska.

Copley Academy’s Principal, Ruth Craven, said: “We are immensely proud of all the work and achievements of our students, especially after such a difficult and disrupted year. Our students have demonstrated great resilience, adaptability and commitment. Skills and attributes that will stand them in good stead for the future.

"The staff at Copley Academy have worked tirelessly to ensure students are all able to progress onto further education and study, and we look forward to seeing what they will achieve in the future."
