An independent councillor has said that he's ‘coming for fly-tippers' after rubbish began mushrooming again on his patch.
It comes less than a month after Kaleel Khan wrapped up his Don’t Trash Our Streets initiative, which he labelled a success and was confident future schemes could be led by residents.
However, rubbish has started amassing in Cllr Khan’s Ashton St Peter’s ward, with playgrounds, parks and entries being hardest hit.
“While out on my councillor ward rounds, I discovered fly-tipping and gathered as much evidence as possible, all of which has been submitted to Tameside Council,” said Cllr Khan.
“Shockingly, this rubbish wasn’t even from Tameside or Greater Manchester.
“I am absolutely disgusted. It was dumped on council land—but rest assured, we are coming for you.”
He has pledged to restart community litter picks from this weekend, asking residents to give one hour of time to help clean up their local streets.
He also stumbled across three abandoned Aldi shopping trolleys left strewn near the corner of Burlington Street and Cavendish Street.
As well as dumping rubbish on the streets, Sainsbury’s on Lord Sheldon Way has also been plagued by fly-tippers, with large amounts of waste appearing regularly near their recycling bins.
“These offenders are dealing with the wrong type of councillor—I’m committed to tackling this issue head-on.
“Together, we are collecting all relevant evidence, including CCTV footage, to identify and hold the offenders accountable.
“This is an issue I’m determined to resolve for the benefit of our community.”
