Creative career skills course in Mossley

A new course in Mossley has been set up to give people the skills they need to begin a creative career.

Handy People is a new free six-week course funded by the European Social Fund aimed at anyone living in Greater Manchester who isn’t currently working.

It will be held at The Vale, at Vale Mill, on Micklehurst Road, Mossley. The first practical session will take place on Monday, January 24, at 10am-2pm.

Participants will meet specialist tutors and resident Vale artists who will guide them through a series of small projects. Each project will give people a flavour of different practical skills to fuel their creativity.

The sessions will also offer confidence builders, one-to-one sessions to support personal development, and take participants through what it means to be self-employed. Subjects covered includes DIY, up-cycling, carpentry, garden crafts and practical skills.

The course will run every Monday for six weeks with the final session taking place on February 28. There will also be another course in March-April.

To take part you must be: over 16; unemployed or economically inactive; a Greater Manchester resident.

They are particularly interested in hearing from people over 50, retired and economically inactive. Email on hello@the-vale.co.uk or call 01457 238089.
