Crime Roundup: Bricks thrown at cars in Hyde, door handle chancers in Ashton

Police in Tameside are appealing for information after a spate of crime over the past few days.

In Hyde, GMP are seeking CCTV footage after a man threw bricks at parked cars on Harbour Farm Road. The incident, in which 11 vehicles were seriously damaged, happened at around midnight going into Friday September 6.

Anybody with footage is asked to quote the reference number 001234-06092024.

There was a burglary on the same night between 11:30pm and 2:45am, on Nelson Street.

Hyde Godley PCSO Andy Mantell said: “If you witnessed anything suspicious or have any CCTV or have any information that may assist with the investigation, then please contact Greater Manchester Police though www.gmp.police.uk or by ringing 101 and quote the reference CRI/06GG/0018218/24.”

Meanwhile, in Ashton, social media posts have shown two men trying door handles.

“Please can we ask for residents [to] be vigilant and if they see such activity that it is reported at the time to enable us to attend upon the area,” said a statement from PCSO Karen Wild.

Finally, two Fiat 500 Abarths - one yellow, the other grey - were stolen from a driveway on Glendon Crescent between 11pm on Friday September 6 and 4:15am on Saturday 7.

Both cars were taken by a keyless ‘relay theft’, in which a key fob automatically opens the car’s doors and starts the ignition when it comes within range. GMP advise drivers with keyless entry cars to keep their fobs and any spares well away from doors or keep them in a signal-blocking pouch.

“These vehicles could only have left the estate via Bristol Avenue,” said PCSO Ryan Chadwick.

“Can anyone with CCTV around Glendon Crescent & Bristol Avenue and possibly Brecon Crescent please check your systems between these two times for footage of the vehicles, and possible footage of the offenders attending Glendon Crescent, near to the junction of Southwell Gardens.”
