Crimestoppers offers up to £1,000 in racist graffiti appeal

Crimestoppers has pledged to pay up to £1,000 for information that leads to the arrest and charge of those involved in racist graffiti attacks around Denton.

There has been united condemnation of the recent spate of graffiti that has appeared over the last few months.

Nine incidents have been reported since January 21 this year and are believed to be the work of two individuals.

Graffiti has been written on a number of wooden signs in Hulme’s Wood, a defibrillator in Denton, and on a snowy windscreen in Victoria Street. In many of the cases, the letter G has been written in a distinctive way.

Gary Murray, North West Regional Manager at the charity Crimestoppers, said: “Denton, like the rest of Tameside and Greater Manchester, does not tolerate hurtful, racist and bigoted graffiti appearing in public areas and spaces.

“We take this very seriously and are determined to help find out who is involved so that we can put a stop to whoever is writing these shocking, hateful messages.

“We all need to work together to help keep Tameside as a safe place for all communities to live, work and stay. Call Crimestoppers 24/7 UK Contact Centre on freephone 0800 555 111 or fill in our simple and secure anonymous online form at Crimestoppers-uk.org.

“Your information, however apparently small, may make a huge difference. We never take personal details and no one will ever know you contacted us.”
