Our regular reviewer and commentator - secondary school student Daisy Dewsnap - has been watching the heartbreaking 'American Murder: The Family Next Door'...
This documentary was truly heartbreaking and devastating and had a huge impact on me! I had never heard of the Watts family or what happened to them prior to watching this so I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect.
To say I was shocked would be an understatement and I certainly didn’t expect the story to unfold as it did.
The documentary was so uniquely put together and was made up of real footage, text messages, voicemails and photos provided by the Watts’ family and friends.
I thought it was interesting how, rather than just focusing on the crime itself, the documentary explored the events leading up to it and the aftermath too, as well as looking at the victims’ lives.
By the end of the documentary, I felt as though I knew the family myself and you can’t help but adore the two young girls, both of whom are absolutely gorgeous, which made what happened even more haunting and harrowing.
After watching the documentary, there is lots of additional information for you to read online to obtain another perspective into what happened and hear the story from many people’s point of view.
I would recommend this documentary, without a doubt.
But I must just warn you that it will absolutely break your heart and will most definitely be one that stays in your mind long after watching it.
