In his latest column, the Tameside Radio presenter tells us all about a four-piece Greater Manchester band he has high hopes for this year.
There are many great bands around at the moment that deserve a big break, with Wigan's Stanleys at the very top of that list.
Announcing a Manchester headline gig at Night and Day last week, to take place on Friday 29 July, tickets went on sale last Friday at 9am and by 11am the venue had been upgraded to Gorilla due to the high demand.
Stanleys are no strangers on the music scene, and have been leading the way for other bands, such as The Lathums, for a good few years.
Named after Winstanley College, where the lads met, this year has to be Stanleys' year, and going by ticket sales for the Manchester date, it's looking like their time is now and it's well deserved.
The four-piece band, made up of lead singer Tom Concannon, guitarist Jake Dorsman, Bass player Harry Ivory and drummer Rob Hilton, have continuously released some of the great unsigned indie anthems of the last few years.
Fans' favourites such as 'A Better Life', 'Look Back', 'Measured in Gold', 'So Long' and 'What's Been And Gone' have also made them one of the North West's most lovable bands.
Guitarist Jake Dorsman was responsible for the charity Band Aid 2021 single, and on the local music scene they have become one of the most respected bands, and set of lads around.
Stanleys have promised there will be plenty of summer festival dates for the fans, and a new EP is on the way.
I'm lucky to have heard some of the band's new tracks, they really are something special and I hope the rest of the music world gets behind them in the way the North West has. An almost sold-out tour of the UK in December with rave reviews gives us hope that it will.
Stanleys are a brilliant band, with great original songs, a first class live show, and are the most genuine set of musicians you could wish to meet.
I really hope 2022 is their year, I highly recommend checking out their music and seeing them live when you can.
Stanleys headline Gorilla Manchester on Friday 29 July and remaining tickets are available now on Ticketmaster.
