Denton Carnival beats weather to make fantastic return

Hundreds of people have lined the route of the first Denton Carnival since 2019.

The parade began at noon on Two Trees Lane in Haughton Green, moving along Stockport Road to Crown Point, where it turned onto Manchester Road, then Acre Street before concluding at Duke Street.

Among many others, participants included Denton Youth FC, Lane’s Dance Academy, Mencap, and Gorton and Denton MP Andrew Gwynne.

Speaking before the event, he said: “Denton Carnival was known for its colourful parades, lively entertainment and family-friendly festivities.

“The pandemic made it impossible to organise for the past few years, and it has taken significant effort for the committee to re-establish itself, find volunteers, and get everything in place.

“It’s a monumental task, but the community spirit is stronger than ever!”

There is a family funfair in the Civic Square, a Makers Market in Victoria Park and a Foodie Village, with festivities continuing long into the afternoon.
