Denton friends donate 84 shoeboxes for appeal

Three friends from Denton have made up and donated an amazing 84 shoeboxes packed with festive fare for Christmas appeals. 

Casey Wagstaff, Nicole Webb and Chloe Webb donated the shoeboxes to this year’s Manchester Shoebox Appeal with hampers going to the Hattersley foodbank.

They put together hampers for older folk, plus made up the shoebox presents for newborns, teenagers and adults. 

Items included in the shoeboxes included books, toothbrushes, sweets, hot water bottles and hygiene products.

Nicole explained that the idea for the donation was first formulated at the pub she owns before the second lockdown, with seven other local pubs all joining the effort.

Casey added that she usually volunteers annually for ‘Cash for Kids’, but due to Covid that had not been possible this year.

She said: “We collected as many shoeboxes and donations as we could to fill as many boxes as possible, even spending our own money to make sure there are smiley faces on Christmas Day after the year we have had.

“When we were wrapping them, we were looking at the gifts and imagining opening them. 

“To us, these were general things, but they will mean so much to people in need.”

Their local taxi firm, Call A Car, offered a free service to deliver the boxes.

Hattersley Food Bank also received a donation of three food hampers from the friends, containing cereals, tins and soups.
