Ann Seaborn of Denton recently rang the bell after beating breast cancer, and to mark the moment she has currently raised a whopping £1,021 to fund the fight against it.
Ann held a party last Friday, hosted by her friend, for her family and friends to celebrate her recovery and to raise money for the fight against breast cancer. Friends and family supported the cause on the evening, adding their names to the donation list and wore pink to show their solidarity with others fighting the disease.
The colour pink has been used for a long time by the National Breast Cancer Foundation and symbolizes hope and community for many who have been impacted by breast cancer.
Reflecting on her journey to beating her breast cancer, Ann said “it has been difficult, but I had such a lot of support from family and friends. You can see that from in there, I have got the most fantastic set of family and friends you can hope for so therefore I haven’t needed to go into any support groups.”
The support groups Ann talks about are plentiful and are offered by a range of charities and organizations including the Christie, Cancer Research and Macmillan Cancer Support to name a few. Ann talked about the support groups, saying “there are so many support groups out there, the NHS have been amazing and I have been very lucky as it got caught early on.”
Breast cancer can range from stages zero to four, with zero being the best time for it to be caught and stage four being the most severe. Ann told us that she had been diagnosed with stage two, and Ann told us more about her journey to recovery. “I was diagnosed with stage two which came as a shock to me and within a very short space of time I had surgery at Tameside Hospital. I had a fantastic consultant and surgeon and had two nodes removed. I had five sessions of intense radiotherapy and the radiologist, the oncologist and everyone was absolutely fantastic.”
Ann rang the bell to mark her being cancer free on Thursday 12th October, and has been celebrating the milestone since. In previous years Ann had hosted a coffee morning, but this year she was prompted to raise money after going through her ordeal. “This year I decided I will do breast cancer awareness, as I have heard that 1 person regardless of gender is diagnosed every ten minutes in the UK. I have always hosted the coffee mornings at my house, but my friend and her husband have been fantastic and offered to host it at their house, getting everything in and sorting it out.”
The donations to the cause are currently standing at a huge £1,021 and for anyone wanting to donate to the fundraiser, head to Anns’ JustGiving page at https://www.justgiving.com/page/anne-seaborn-1697630762621?utm_term=4ar4PQqrz
