Denton runner strides out for funds ahead of marathon

A Denton man is over the moon after raising £900 for charity, ahead of a marathon challenge.

Scott Greene, 43, is set to take on the Manchester Marathon and the London Marathon next month in aid of Save The Children.

He’s part of a three-person team set up by his employer, Kingsmill. Scott is partnered with two women from the south, each of whom has been tasked with raising £1,850 each.

Last Saturday Scott took a big step towards that total with a race night at the Chapel House on Two Trees Lane in Haughton Green.

Supporters turned out in their droves to support the cause, with the pub standing room only for a night of feasting and fun.

“It was absolutely amazing,” he said.

“I couldn’t even guess the amount of people there it was so busy. The staff were fantastic.”

There were numerous raffle prizes on offer as well, including carvery meals, escape rooms and a boot signed by Manchester United and England legend Bryan Robson.

Food was provided by the former landlord of the pub and Scott brought down some of Kingsmill’s newest products for the punters to try.

Scott is a member of Hyde Village Striders, a group of runners who meet weekly to train and encourage each other. He says that they’ve been invaluable in getting him back up to speed ahead of the challenge.

He said: “It’s brilliant. It’s a nice competitive club, but not too competitive.

“If you’ve had a bad day at work you can go, run and clear your head.”

Scott would like to thank Ann Morrissey, Ken Roberts from Printaims in Reddish and George, temporary manager at the Chapel House for all their help.
