Councillors in Denton South asked local residents what their favourite pub in the ward was to coincide with National Beer Day recently and the winner has now been announced.
It was a tight battle but The Bay Horse in Haughton Green came out on top in the vote for Pub of the Year, with Jolly Hatters in Haughton Green coming a close second.
Mike Hill, landlord at The Bay Horse, said him and all the staff were "really chuffed" with the "brilliant" award.
The pub on Haughton Green Road said on its Facebook page: "Thank you so much for all your continued support! We are overwhelmed with the big win. Also a big congratulations to the other pubs in Denton South. It wouldn’t be what it is without all your amazing work!"
The competition was set up by councillors Claire Reid, George Newton and Jack Naylor and the online vote was open for six days.
They said in a statement: "Huge congratulations to Mike, Alex and all at The Bay on being crowned Denton South Pub of the Year 2021!
"Many thanks to all of the customers and pubs who took park, it’s fair to say it was all in good fun, and we are definitely unrivalled when it comes to community spirit.
"We ran the competition not just for a bit of fun but to highlight an important point: our local pubs have had a real tough 18 months, and we all need to support our community locals so they can thrive. Use them or lose them."
The Denton South ward area covers Haughton Green, Haughton Dale, south Denton and Yew Tree.
