Celebrations which were due to take place this weekend to celebrate Denton town twinning anniversaries have been cancelled as a mark of respect for the Queen.
Denton was due to mark 30 years of being twinned with Montigny-le-Bretonneux near Paris, France, and 10 years of being twinned with Kierspe near Cologne, Germany.
Following the sad death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96 last Thursday, plans have been altered.
Instead, representatives of the towns will take part in an act of remembrance in honour of her late Majesty.
Denton Town Twinning Association said in a statement: "We thank the citizens of Montigny and Kierspe for their understanding and thoughtful messages of condolence at this sad time."
Over the last three decades, town twinning has impacted dozens of Denton businesses, scores of Denton bands, hundreds of Denton residents and thousands of Denton schoolchildren.
The Town Twinning Association is a voluntary organisation which facilitates exchange visits to both twin towns for residents, clubs and schools.
Anyone who wants to get involved can contact Denton South councillor George Newton by emailing george.newton@tameside.gov.uk
