Droylsden runner's comic capers for charity

A man from Droylsden will be running the full Tour of Tameside while donning comical costumes.

Jonny Coombs has committed to completing the full distance of the Tour, which in four days covers around 32 miles, to raise vital funds for the Emma Cosgrove Foundation Forever 19.

The foundation works incredibly hard to support young people whilst they are affected by cancer and was set up in memory of Emma Cosgrove.

The 19-year-old sadly passed away in 2017 following an osteosarcoma diagnosis in 2010.

Emma relapsed with the bone cancer eight times during her battle, yet she continued to keep the fighting spirit alive inside her throughout it all.

Emma’s story is one of utter devastation, but her name lives on through the foundation that provides life changing work.

Jonny was friends with Emma’s family, meaning he saw the progress of the charity after her passing.

“The foundation work to grant the wishes of those living with teenage cancer and one of the nicest parts is that they grant small wishes, as realistically the young people just want a distraction away from their illness.

“I’ve watched this charity progress having known the family, so I was really pleased to be able to support them,” he says.

In order to provide the charity with funds, Jonny will be kitted out as Spiderman during the X-Trail 10k, Deadpool during the Hell on the Fell, Batman during the Hero Half Marathon and an inflatable Minion during the Dr Ron Hill Hyde 7.

Self-proclaimed comic book geek Jonny is beyond proud to be raising funds dressed as some of his favourite heroes. He may even have a surprise guest joining him during his Minion grand finish.

“As I will be raising money for children who are suffering, I thought it might be nice to dress up in some recognisable outfits and put a smile on people’s faces.

“Plus, anyone who knows me will know that I love comics!” he says.

He is now committed to helping terminally ill teens receive their wishes and is prepared to face the races head on.
