Eddie and Ronnie Bring Christmas Cheer to Newton

This Christmas Day, Hyde welcomed two very special visitors, Eddie and Ronnie, two very handsome miniature Shetland ponies dressed as Santa Claus.

This Christmas Day, Hyde welcomed two very special visitors, Eddie and Ronnie, two very handsome miniature Shetland ponies dressed as Santa Claus, spreading joy and raising vital funds for Munchkins Miniature Shetland Rescue. They visited The Rising Moon on Matley Lane, where locals were enjoying their Christmas Lunch and to meet the ponies and learn more about the work of the rescue charity.

Munchkins Miniature Shetland Rescue, based in the South of England, provides a haven for abandoned, neglected, or mistreated miniature Shetland ponies. With space for up to 50 ponies, the charity faces monthly veterinary bills exceeding £5,000, making fundraising and community support essential for its operations.

Eddie, now nine years old, and Ronnie, his companion, have been with their owner since they were very young. Their owner, a Hyde local, has brought them to The Rising Moon regularly, but today, their festive outfits and the cause they represent made the occasion extra special.

“We’re here to raise awareness and funds for Munchkins Miniature Shetland Rescue,” explained Eddie and Ronnie’s owner. “The rescue takes in ponies that have been abandoned or neglected and provides them with the care and love they deserve. Every little bit helps, especially at Christmas.”

Visitors fell in love with the ponies, taking photos and donating to the cause. The collection bucket, had the charity’s details and a QR code for easy online donations, filled steadily throughout the day.

If you’d like to support Munchkins Miniature Shetland Rescue, you can donate via their JustGiving page. Every donation goes directly towards veterinary care, feed, and the upkeep of the rescue facility, ensuring that ponies like Eddie and Ronnie—and lots of others—have a safe and happy future.
