Fancy dress charity walk in aid of Willow Wood

Members of Hyde Fire Station's Prince’s Trust program will lead a fancy-dress walk to the Willow Wood Hospice this Thursday.

The group aims to raise £1,000 in aid of the hospice, which provides end-of-life care for those with life-limiting illnesses in Tameside and Glossop.

Sarah Quinn, Team Manager at the Prince's Trust in Hyde - which is for 16 to 25-year-olds who are not in education, training or employment - says that the people on her course picked Willow Wood as their chosen good cause.

“This came about because I had a childhood friend in Willow Wood, who died while I was doing the program. The young people showed so much empathy towards me when I got the phone call, that I thought ‘this has obviously helped them’.”

Willow Wood has also looked after relatives of people on the Prince’s Trust course, which prompted them to want to raise money for the charity.

“Luckily, Willow Wood’s distribution centre have loaned us some costumes,” Sarah says of Thursday’s walk, which 12 people will take part in. “We have everything from Batman and a lion to the Three Amigos.”

The Civic Mayor of Tameside, Betty Affleck, and the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, Sharman Birtles, will also lend their support on the day.
