Former Detective Inspector publishes his third novel

James Ellson spent 15 years in the police, starting in London and finishing as a Detective Inspector at Moss Side, before delving into the world of writing in his Peak District home.

His debut novel The Trail was published in 2020, the first of a critically acclaimed series. Both The Trail and its sequel Cold Dawn were longlisted for the Boardman Tanker Award. The third book Cold Summer will be released on November 1.

Cold Summer centres around DI Castle as he competes in a race against time to find two wanted suspects before they kill one another.

On the site of a disused supermarket, the hidden compartment of an articulated lorry is being unloaded. At the same time, a prisoner escapes from Strangeways. Are the two things connected?

Samantha Brownley, from UK Crime Book Club, said Cold Summer is the 'best book so far' in this gripping series.

"James Ellson's books just keep getting better," she added.

James' book will be available online https://jamesellson.com/product/cold-summer/ and from your local bookshop - ISBN: 978-1-7394421-4-9 | eBook: 978-1-7394421-5-6
