A former senior police officer with Greater Manchester Police (GMP) is to face proceedings for gross misconduct over claims he wore military medals he had not been awarded.
Nick Adderley headed GMP's Tameside division in 2012 when Dale Cregan killed PCs Nicola Hughes and Fiona Bone.
He served in the Royal Navy but is alleged to have misrepresented his past by wearing a Falklands War campaign medal when he was too young to have served in the conflict.
Currently he is suspended from his role of Chief Constable with Northamptonshire Police.
A statement from the office of Northamptonshire's Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner said: "Allegations against Mr Adderley were made to the Office of Northamptonshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner in July 2023. In line with the statutory guidance, the allegations were referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
“The IOPC is carrying out an investigation and in a report has assessed, based on the evidence gathered to date, that there is a case to answer for gross misconduct.
“Northamptonshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Stephen Mold has now accepted this passes the tests for an accelerated disciplinary hearing. A hearing will now be convened at the earliest opportunity.”
A date is due to be fixed for the hearing.
