Four teens arrested after police chase in Ashton

Four teenage boys were arrested on suspicion of burglary and two stolen vehicles were recovered following a police chase in Ashton.

Earlier this month, officers spotted two 'suspicious' vehicles travelling along Newmarket Road in the town.

Police believe one of the vehicles was stolen during a burglary that night and the other was used in a burglary the previous night.

The occupants of one of the vehicles - three teenagers - abandoned one of the cars and bundled into the second after officers pulled up behind them.

GMP have released body cam footage of the pursuit which ensued before the car was abandoned on Thirlmere Avenue and the teenagers fled on foot.

Officers chased them through various streets, gardens and football fields before detaining four teenage boys. They were arrested on suspicion of burglary and have all since been released on bail, pending further enquiries.

The vehicle was recovered and it was confirmed to have been stolen during a burglary just minutes earlier in the Hurst area that evening.

GMP say an investigation remains ongoing.

Sergeant Luke Summerfield, of GMP's Tameside district, said: "Burglary is an incredibly intrusive and upsetting crime for those who unfortunately fall victim to it and we're committed to ensuring those responsible for such crimes are identified and face justice.

"Thanks to a great team effort that evening, we were able to detain four males on suspicion of burglary and recover two stolen vehicles. Our investigation currently remains ongoing and I would encourage anyone who may information or video footage to get in touch with police as soon as possible."

Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 9125 or 101, quoting incident 207 of 03/01/22.
