Friends of teen battling rare cancer raise almost £10,000 in one day

In a remarkable display of compassion, the friends of a teenager battling a rare bone cancer have come together to raise an astounding sum of almost £10,000 in just one day.

Liam Chadwick was diagnosed with telangiectatic osteosarcoma last October and recently lost his arm due to the severity of the illness.

Liam's friends have rallied together and will be conquering the summits of Mount Snowden, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis this summer within a tight 24-hour window to raise as much money as possible for him.

Abby, Liam's girlfriend, said: "When Liam was diagnosed, it was a shock for us all however ever since that day he has shown nothing but strength. As you can imagine it was an even bigger shock to find out he was losing his arm.

"I'm so proud of the resilience he shows daily even when going through such a tough time. He continues to amaze me every day! And so do the people around him, the amount of love and support Liam has received is incredible. His friends will absolutely smash the three peaks."

Vinny Fitzgerald, who has organised the fundraiser, said: "He's been so positive about it and shown me, his family and all his mates how strong he truly is. This challenge won't be easy but there's a good few of us taking on this battle just like Liam did."

Vinny emphasised that every donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful impact.

Prior to his diagnosis, the former St Damian's RCSC pupil played rugby for seven years at Saddleworth Rangers and despite losing his arm to the rare form of cancer, Liam's unwavering positivity and strength have touched the lives of everyone around him.

The fundraiser was set up on Tuesday 5 March and reached £9000 in just one day, with 562 donations now received totalling £10,640 only three days later.
