A group of community volunteers spruced up the Tame Valley on bank holiday Monday as part of efforts to mark the King's Coronation.
The event, organised by Friends of the Tame Valley member Bryony Evens, brought local people together for a Coronation Clean-Up, and coincided with The Big Help Out national volunteering initiative.
FoTV is a community group run entirely by volunteers and was set up with the help of Denton and Reddish MP Andrew Gwynne back in 2021.
The Big Help Out is an initiative supported by some of the biggest charities and voluntary organisations in the UK. It aims to raise awareness of volunteering and incentivise people to get involved. As part of the Coronation celebrations, it is estimated that more than six million people across the UK took part in a volunteering event near them.
In spite of the pouring rain in the Tame Valley on Monday morning, bags of litter were cleared, and volunteer Rob Hardman even cut down a tree which had partially fallen and was blocking a bridleway.
MP Gwynne, who acts as secretary for the Group and joined volunteers alongside Cllr Allison Gwynne, said: "It really says an enormous amount about our community that so many people took time out of their bank holiday Monday to spruce up the Tame Valley.
"While this event was organised as part of the Big Help Out and to mark the historic Coronation of King Charles III, its simply the latest in a long line of fantastic events that FoTV have organised since their inception.
"I'd like to also thank Bryony Evens for her exceptional organisation, and for getting so many people out to brave the rain on Monday morning. The Valley is looking so much tidier, and it was a lovely day out for all involved."
