Friends of the Tame Valley lead effort to improve the local area

Friends of the Tame Valley, the community group looking after the Tame Valley, teamed up with Virgin Media O2 to cultivate the river bank and planted spring bulbs in Jet Amber Fields.

Over the last few weeks, the volunteer group has worked with a number of other companies - including Amey and Suez - and undertaken tree work, removed debris from paths and river-beds and cleared out rubbish in the area.

Friends of the Tame Valley was formed in 2020 with the help of Denton and Reddish MP Andrew Gwynne. Gwynne has called the combined effort 'truly remarkable' and thanked volunteers and company representatives for their hard work.

Since its inception, Friends of the Tame Valley have raised funds for signage repairs, cleared invasive Himalayan Balsam from the area, and worked closely with local representatives to improve the Tame Valley.

Commenting on the success of the most recent community day, FoTV member Chris Clarke thanked Virgin Media O2 staff and said: "Alex, Dan, Anthony and Craig worked really hard on the day, and the work they did has made a massive difference. I can't wait to see the bulbs flower in the spring.

"Everyone enjoyed the day, thank you Virgin Media O2."

Andrew Gwynne, MP for Denton and Reddish, said: "Over the last couple of months, volunteers and businesses have teamed up for a truly remarkable effort to improve our local area.

"They should all be immensely proud of the work that they have done. Friends of the Tame Valley was set up to protect and enhance our beautiful Tame Valley, and the group is really growing from strength to strength.

"Thanks to Virgin Media O2, Suez, Amey and all the FoTV volunteers for their hard work!"
