GENERAL ELECTION 2024: Cheers as Angela Rayner retains Ashton-under-Lyne seat for Labour

Angela Rayner has been re-elected as MP for Ashton-under-Lyne in the 2024 general election.

In her declaration she thanked friends, family, and her agent Ged Cooney who she described as a "source of strength" to her, and said she hoped to do them proud in a Labour government.

She said: "I am proud to have support right across our community but will never take them for granted."

She also paid tribute to mothers and small businesses.

Ms Rayner said: "To represent this constituency is a privilege. This is a vote to replace self service with public service and restore belief to those who have had hope taken away.

"Today is our chance to turn the page and start a new chapter, to tackle cost of living crisis and make work pay.

"I am proud of Ashton-under-Lyne and I am proud of Britain."

She was elected on 44 per cent of the vote.

The full results were:

Robert Barrowcliffe (Reform): 8,784
