Georgia Taylor-Brown made it successive wins on the supertri triathlon circuit with victory in London today.
The Droylsden athlete pipped her Crown Racing teammate, Olympic champion Cassandre Beaugrand, to the tape by just one second after a see-saw battle that saw the lead change on almost every leg.
Formerly known as the Enduro, supertri races feature three 300m swims, three 4km bike rides, and three 1.6km runs.
Vittória Lopes, Kirsten Kasper and Olivia Mathias all jostled for dominance at the front on the first set, but it was GTB who ended the first full stage ahead.
Kasper and Mathias swapped the lead during the second swim and cycling stages, before Taylor-Brown again overhauled them during the run.
Her advantage was minimal, though, and Mathias again excelled in the water of West India Quay and in the saddle to go into the final sprint six seconds ahead of the pack.
However, GTB had a Short Chute up her sleeve – a shortcut earned by finishing first in the initial swim, bike and run legs – using it a kilometre from home to push back into the lead.
Despite Beaugrand reeling the Tameside triathlete in during the final few hundred metres, Taylor-Brown wrapped up the win to extend her lead at the top of the table to 5 points from Podium Racing’s Jeanne Lehair, who finished eight seconds back in 3rd.
The supertri series has two more events left: in Toulouse on October 6, and NEOM in Saudi Arabia on November 3.
