Grand opening of new Ashton community hub

The Hub, a new community centre near Oasis Broadoak, has today had its grand opening.

Previously part of the school, the centre will now be used to provide training and different sessions for members of the community.

The newly created centre is situated just behind Oasis Broadoak academy and can be found off Greenwood Avenue.

The grand opening was attended by many of the team that helped bring the project into reality, including many of Oasis Broadoaks’ academy members.

One of the key members of the centres’ opening is Carolyn from Jigsaw Homes, an engagement officer working with community centre runner Debbie for a number of years.

“Today is the official opening to start the wellbeing clubs and for people to get together, focus on mental health and fitness and bringing the community together. It is lovely that so many people have turned up and it looks like it is going to be a great day.”

The Northwest Regional Director for primary schools, Emma Johnson, gave us her thoughts and feelings about the work that has led up to the opening day.

“What we have done here is really brilliant,” Emma said, “and the things we are able to offer to people already is great. Everybody is welcome here and there are courses for everybody available.”

Emma went on to talk more about a new course that is being offered after the community asked for it to be implemented.

“We are now offering air fryer courses!” Emma told us. “The courses we offer are at the request of the community and the hub was wanted by the community, so everything is done for them.”

The Hub has opened again Carolyn from Jigsaw Homes, engagement officer working with Debbie for a number of years.

“Today is the official opening today to run the wellbeing clubs, for people to get together, and focusing on mental health, fitness and bringing the community together. It is lovely that so many people have turned up and it looks like it is going to be a great day.”

Mayor Tafheen Sharif was also at the opening to offer her support for The Hub.
