Taking fundraising to the next level, a group of local people have completed a sponsored headstand event to raise funds for the mental health charity Tameside, Oldham and Glossop Mind.
On the day, Kim and Clare from Iyengar Yoga, on King Street in Dukinfield, led participants and supported them to hold a headstand for as long as possible.
The longest lasted 15 minutes and together the group managed to raise an incredible £1,429. Kim and Clare also took part and the group included a participant who linked in on Zoom from Florence in Italy.
Clare, who also teaches yoga classes at the centre, said: "TOG Mind is our local centre based just down the road from us. They work across the diverse community we share to improve the health and wellbeing of all. Values just like our own. Sadly, like many charities the referrals for services increase dramatically but the funds to provide those services don't. So, we wanted to help."
Jason Bromley, who looks after fundraising for the charity, said: "Here at TOG Mind we know how difficult it is for so many people currently. I was absolutely amazed at the group’s talents and also the kindness and generosity of their family, friends and wider networks. The yoga centre is also a fantastic local community space. We’re so grateful for the support and I want to especially thank Kim and Clare for organising everything."
TOG Mind have continued to increase their support offers over the last 12 months, extending opening hours, recruiting more staff and volunteers and launching a brand-new support service in Tameside and Glossop for children, young people and families.
