Headteacher delighted to welcome students back to Droylsden Academy

Droylsden Academy headteacher Philip Wilson has warmly welcomed all students back to the school for the first time since lockdown in March.

“We have really missed them and it has been fantastic to see all of them back in class and working hard,” he states in the school’s latest newsletter.

He continues: “There have, of course, been many changes to our daily procedures and the way that we will have to work for the foreseeable future, but one thing that has not changed is the happy, purposeful and vibrant atmosphere around our school.”

He stated he was very pleased that 96 per cent of students returned to school last Thursday but added that after 14 weeks out of normal education, ‘no child can afford any more time out of school.’

Although there have been many adaptations to the way the school works, it was straight back into lessons last Thursday with staff looking forward to delivering the curriculum.

“Thank you to all parents and carers for your support over the last six months,” he added.

“We were delighted with the high levels and standards of student engagement with our on-line provision during lockdown and that, now we have re-opened, our students have returned well prepared and ready to learn.

“We have also been delighted by the many really positive comments and messages of support and thanks we have received from parents and carers, they really have been appreciated,” he said.

“Thank you again and, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact school onadmin@droylsdenacademy.com so that a member of our team can help.”

Students are reminded that, in accordance with national guidelines, they must take their face masks to school while parents are reminded to wash the face masks regularly.

For consistency, Droylsden Academy is only permitting students to attend school with plain black face masks as provided by the school.

Government requirements mean students must wear face masks when moving around the school, such as in corridors and communal areas, where social distancing is difficult to maintain.

Although students are permitted to wear face masks in classrooms and in outside areas if they wish, this is not a requirement.
