Health care assistant Judy hailed a hero

A health care assistant based in the fracture and orthopaedic outpatient clinic at Tameside Hospital has been awarded a Hero Award by her colleagues.

Judy Sutton’s actions have been hailed as ‘the ultimate in patient care’ for her caring and helpful nature. In helping one gentleman she instinctively understood that the man needed a little extra support.

She made him tea and toast and sat with him for a while, at which point he fell asleep. Judy then saw the man was wearing a plaster cast for a broken arm, and, after checking it, it became apparent a different hospital trust had originally treated theman, fitting the cast a few months
before.

Thanks to Judy, the gentleman was able to be treated in the clinic and before he left she even helped him freshen up, finding new clothes, including socks and shoes.

She was presented with her award by Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS FT Chief Executive Karen James OBE, who told her ‘the
level of empathy you demonstrated and your refusal to turn a blind eye shows an exceptionally humane commitment to care.

“We are proud to have you as a valued member of our NHS team,” she added.
