Police have warned residents to be vigilant after a spate of thefts of number plates and high value cars.
The vehicles have all been taken after burglars broke into houses around Hyde to steal car keys, prompting GMP’s Tameside South unit to ask locals to review their security measures.
“Please try to make sure all doors/windows are locked and checked before you go to sleep. If you don't have any ‘anti-snap’ locks, please consider updating your external door locks.
“Update your security [and] please consider CCTV cameras or a video doorbell.”
There has also been a spike in number plate thefts in the area.
Although they don’t have much monetary value, stolen plates are often used to mask other crimes, such as hiding cars from ANPR cameras, fuel theft or avoiding other driving violations.
PCSO Andy Mantell from GMP’s Hyde Godley Neighbourhood Team said: “We would advise using security screws to attach your vehicle’s number plates makes it harder for thieves to remove them.”
Tameside residents are being urged to share their views on proposed changes to NHS-funded IVF services before a public consultation closes on Thursday 29th July.
