How local organisations are marking World Wildlife Day

Wednesday (3 March) is World Wildlife Day and local organisations are joining brands across the globe in removing wildlife from logos to imagine a world without nature.

The World Without Nature campaign encourages companies to remove nature from their branding to highlight the global loss of biodiversity.

The social media campaign has been organised by the Voice for the Planet coalition, including companies such as WWF, UNICEF, Conservation International, Earth Hour and The Nature Conservancy.

Sir David Attenborough launched this coalition back in 2019, calling for world leaders to agree on a New Deal for Nature and People, which aimed to reverse humanity’s impact on nature and protect the planet.

Their World Without Nature campaign is another step toward highlighting the dramatic loss of biodiversity and the social and economic risks it poses to human life. On March 3, they’re encouraging companies, NGOs and sports teams to remove nature from their branding for a day.

WWF will be removing their iconic panda from their logo and Twitter is supporting the campaign with a #WorldWithoutNature hashtag emoji.

Whether it’s plants, trees, water or animals, these are all part of the natural world and can be removed from logos or badges. Those taking part are also asked to publish a post on their social media channels talking about why they’re taking part and why awareness of nature and habitat loss is so important.

Followers can show support for their favourite brands by adding their voice to a pledge at panda.org/voice. The pledge will be used ahead of international meetings in 2021, where governments will be deciding on global targets for nature.

People can also share and retweet to spread the positive message and drive change.

The Running Bee Foundation have removed the bee from their logo.

Tameside Netball Club have also removed the animal from their logo.

Aldwinians RUFC in Audenshaw also shared a new logo.
