How one Ashton school has celebrated Easter under Covid restrictions

Easter is always an important time in the calendar at St Peter's CE Primary School in Ashton and, despite restrictions due to Covid-19, this year is no different.

Pupils and staff at the Oxford Street school usually come together at St Peter's Church to celebrate the important Christian festival but, as that wasn't possible, Reverend Ben Brady led an Easter-themed Collective Worship over Zoom.

Each class performed with music teacher Mr Derbyshire and the school's Trinity Club also shared a lovely poem about Easter, which you can watch here:

The school's Ethos Council - which ensures the school's Mustard Seed Ethos and Christian Values underpin everything that they do - also shared all of the brilliant work that each class has been doing during the period of Lent.

Deputy head teacher Chris Colvin said: "Lent is a season of reflection, before the celebrations of Easter. At St. Peter's we try and give back during this season.

"This year we were unable to fundraise in our usual way so, inspired by the Climate Coalition’s Show the Love Campaign, each class took part in their own Eco Lenten Challenge with pupils litter picking, promoting Fairtrade products, planting and even setting up their own repurpose shop."

Pupils also had lots of fun in the sun whilst taking part in a socially-distanced Easter Bonnet Parade.

Chris added: "Friend’s of St Peter’s kindly sourced over 80 eggs from Asda in Ashton and Morrison’s in Dukinfield and Denton, which we awarded for best bonnets and best dancing.

"Despite Covid restrictions, it was a lovely way to celebrate Easter and come together as a community."
