Hyde CC take Cheshire County Cricket League title to the wire

The race for the Cheshire County Cricket League title will go to the final weekend as both Hyde and Nantwich won their respective games on Saturday.

Table topping Hyde saw off Bowdon on Werneth Low in a rerun of last Sunday's Cheshire Cup semi-final.

The home side chose to field after winning the toss, with Lancashire starlet Charlie Barnard magnificent in restricting the visitors to 3-15 from his focused 10 overs.

Shardul Viinoaday top scored for Bowdon with 42, but he was one of just four batters to reach double figures as they were toppled for 165 runs.

Although not at their free-flowing best, Hyde had plenty in the tank throughout the chase. Luke Young, Kesh Fonseka and man of the match Barnard were all dismissed after notching unhurried scores of 30-plus.

The belated appearance of Jack Tipton in the Bowdon attack caused a minor wobble as he took 3-17 in just four overs, but Hyde reached their target with two wickets and more than eight overs to spare.

Elsewhere, Nantwich also claimed 20 points in demolishing Widnes by 9 wickets. Ali Chughtai was their only batsman to fall after a hitting a measured 84 from 99 balls.

Hyde are 10 points ahead of their rivals going into next weekend’s final doubleheader, knowing that wins at Chester Broughton Hall and Grappenhall will bring home their first Cheshire League title since 2015.
