Hyde fundraiser marks 40th Anniversary

A local charity group is continuing to celebrate its 40th anniversary – this time with a visit to Ashton from Davros.

Hyde Fundraisers was first launched in 1985, after a group of friends met in the Blackpool Dr Who Exhibition and bonded over a love of prop and costume making.

40 years later, the charity has since gone on to raise money for Children in Need, the NSPCC and The Dogs Trust, as well as a range of other charitable causes.

They have also fundraised for various local groups, including Tameside’s Little Gems, which supports over 500 parents in Tameside raising children with special educational needs.

The group – made up entirely of volunteers – designs costumes, props, and replicas for both charity events and television series across the region.

In 2021, it supplied several hand-built Daleks to feature in the award-winning Channel 4 drama It’s a Sin.

On 29th March, the group is set to make their latest appearance in Specsavers Opticians in Ashton, this time with Dr Who’s creator of the Daleks, Davros.

The store has been supporting the charity across the month of March to celebrate their 40th anniversary, as they themselves mark their 30th anniversary since the store launched in 1995.

James Richardson, who has been at the Specsavers since it first opened and now works as its Retal Director, said: “It’s great to support Hyde Fundraisers and the amazing voluntary work and fundraising they do in the community.”
