Friends of the Tame Valley – the community group that looks after the Tame Valley – have come up with a novel way of exploring the local area.  

The Tame Valley Geocache Treasure Hunt is an initiative that has been organised by FOTV and allows residents to get involved and keep the valley clean whilst having fun.  

Geocaching is the world’s largest treasure hunting game. Over three million cleverly hidden containers called geocaches are hidden all over the world just waiting to be found.  

Committee member Rob Hardman (who goes by the username LizardRobb) has hidden 10 caches (all named with the prefix FoTV) to honour the Friends of the Tame Valley and to give everyone an alternative way to explore the valley and to go to some places off the beaten track.  

Geocaching is free to play and all you need to do to join is sign up at geocaching.com and have a GPS enabled device, a pen and a sense of adventure handy. 

Denton MP Andrew Gwynne, who is secretary of the group, said: "This is a fantastic idea to get families exploring the valley. I’m grateful to Rob for setting this up, and to FOTV for always thinking of new ways to get people out and about in our fantastic local area.  

"Friends of the Tame Valley are doing some incredible work and I’d recommend anyone who is interested to sign up and get involved with the group.
