Jet wash scammers targeting Tameside

Tameside residents have been asked to be vigilant after reports of rogue traders offering jet washing services across the borough.

The scammers have been charging £500 to clean patios and driveways but have done such a poor job that residents felt they had to contact the police.

“Even if you initially agree to a price, if you don't know the going rate for that kind of work and you end up paying over the odds the provider may still have committed Trading Standards Offences,” said a spokesperson for GMP’s Tameside South team.

“You are also entitled to a cancellation or cooling-off period of 14 days.

“Any company not making you aware of this or offering it to you may not be legitimate.

“You can find out more about and report this kind of fraud by phone or online to Action Fraud.”

This follows a spate of similar reports in Trafford earlier in the month.

One scam used to hook unsuspecting residents is quoting £25 for the job, only for the final bill to be much higher as the fraudster then claims the price was for £25 per square metre.

If people have any doubts about tradespeople, police advise checking their credentials as legitimate companies will carry proper identification and contact information.
