Local man Adrian steps up in special memory of his father

The countdown is on for Adrian Shaw who is set to run this year's London Marathon, raising funds for a charity close to his heart.

Taking part in the world-famous race is something Adrian has always wanted to do.

After previously running four official marathons, plus a virtual one in 2020, he admitted the London Marathon on April 23 will probably be his last as he feels he has 'nothing else to prove'.

Adrian is raising funds for the Stroke Association, a charity focused on supporting people to rebuild their lives after a stroke as well as funding research into what causes strokes & how a cure can be found.

Explaining his passion for the charity's work, Adrian said: "My father Jack passed away nearly two years ago after suffering a series of strokes.

"He was originally from Stalybridge, but also lived in Mossley for a number of years; he was a firefighter for Cheshire Fire Service, based at Stalybridge Fire Station.

"I've always been proud of the fact that my dad was a firefighter. He helped give something back to the community.

"It was lovely on the day of his funeral - they flew the flag at half mast at Stalybridge Fire Station in respect for him, and it was really touching that they remembered him."

Arian, who lives in Glossop, added: "I did the Manchester 10K last year to raise money for the Stroke Association too. I feel like I owe them something, I want to pay them back for the work they did in really helping my father.

"I definitely this this is going to be a big fundraiser. It's not just about raising the money, it's raising the charity's profile too and getting them more publicity. I've got the running vest, so the name is getting out there.

"They've been so supportive as well, offering me lots of help, advice, fundraising packs & information.

"I think there are around 700 people running for their cause, so I won't feel that I'm on my own."
