On Tuesday 24 October, members of Dukinfield & Stalybridge Rotary Club will gather on the steps of Dukinfield Town Hall to commemorate World Polio Day.
Civic Mayor of Tameside, Taf Sharif, will also be in attendance.
Polio is a life-threatening disease caused by the poliovirus. The virus spreads from person to person and can cause paralysis by infecting the spinal cord.
Rotary's fight against Polio began in 1979 and, alongside the World Health Organisation, has helped to immunise over 2.5 billion children against Polio.
This has resulted in a 99.9% reduction in Polio cases.
In 1988, there were an estimated 350,000 cases of Polio across 125 countries. Rotary are now very close to radiating Polio across the globe, with only seven cases recorded so far this year - all of the same strain in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Club President, Martin Daglish, said: "Dukinfield and Stalybridge Rotary Club is very proud of its continued support for the End Polio Now campaign.
"We are one of the largest donors amongst the Rotary Clubs in the North West District and received a certificate of appreciation for our financial support of End Polio Now: Countdown to History Campaign. Together we will fulfill our promise to the children of the world to eradicate polio.
"We are holding a Curry Night at the Candolin Restaurant in Stalybridge on Thursday 2 November for our Club members and friends with all proceeds being donated to End Polio Now."
