Police officers raced to the scene yesterday (Wednesday 28 June) following reports that a bus driver had been stabbed on Oldham Road in Ashton-under-Lyne, close to the transport interchange.
It was reported that the bus driver had intervened in a fight at around 1:25pm - he was treated in hospital for a wound to his arm and has now been discharged.
Mohabatulla Oriakhil, 23, has been charged with wounding with intent, threatening a person with a bladed article and attempted robbery.
A woman commented on social media saying: "My husband was one of the drivers who was there yesterday, saw everything and went to help. Him and his 2 trainees. The driver who was stabbed is thankfully OK, has had stitches but is alive. I'm still in shock after he rang me yesterday, a normal day at work for some and then this happened. Someone carrying a knife up their sleeve in broad daylight is terrifying."
A spokesperson for Stagecoach Manchester said: "We can confirm there has been an incident involving one of our drivers in Ashton Bus Station which has resulted in our member of staff being treated in hospital.
