Armed officers were summoned to the usually quiet street of Fernley Avenue late on Thursday evening (9 December) to raid a property, where several items were recovered.
These included eight suspected firearms and converted ammunition which police say were sent to a safe space to be forensically examined.
Residents had to be evacuated from their homes on Friday for a short period as a precaution.
GMP say added reassurance patrols remain in place around the area and anyone with any concerns is advised to approach officers.
The force believe this to be an isolated incident and that there is no wider threat to the public.
