Man jailed for alcohol-fuelled attack

Arsonist Paul Ryder torched a mattress at a property in Dukinfield, Tameside magistrates were told.

The 37-year-old had initially denied the charge but he later changed his plea to guilty.

He also admitted a further charge of destroying a bed as well as the mattress on June 9 this year.

The court heard the defendant was fuelled by alcohol when the offence happened.

Magistrates were told he was also subject to a suspended prison sentence for an offence which had happened back in December 2018. As a result they jailed him for a total of 17 weeks.

The court also issued him with a restraining order, meaning that he must have no contact with a named individual and must stay away from an address in the town. He was also ordered to pay £250 compensation by the court.

His address was given as Unsworth Cottage in Ashton.
