Meet the teenage Droylsden musician who's just released his debut single

A talented 13-year-old musician from Droylsden is impressing on a large scale following the release of his debut single.

Alex Spencer decided to compose a song revolving around his experiences of lockdown as a young teenager and the things he has missed out on, amid the restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

His debut single 'Things just come and go' has been self-released using busking money and crowdfunding.

But Alex has chosen to donate 20 per cent of all proceeds from the sale of this track to Young Minds, who work to improve the mental health of young people.

Alex has chosen to use his prolonged time in lockdown to create music that both lifts and empowers his peers and he believes this is echoes in his track.

Described as ‘musically and lyrically above his years’, Alex has already impressed with his incredible confidence. 

Someone who has noticed the talent of Alex, who he idolises dearly, is Liam Gallagher.

The Oasis frontman left a comment on a video of Alex busking - ‘you sound celestial’ - showing just how popular and influential Alex's lyrics are.

The lives of many artists were turned upside down in 2020 with the ongoing restrictions and for many the stage was removed.

Relentless in wanting to play to a crowd again, Alex took to social media, engaging with his audience over a live stream and gaining his own fanbase filled with praise of established musicians and bands.

He said: "Lockdowns been a tough time for everyone, but it has given me time to play guitar and write songs.

"I’ve taken the chance to listen to lots of music, practise and be creative. I’ve learned how to produce my own demos and I have written several songs that I cannot wait to share!"
